Legend has it that the Kechemeche tribe of the Lenape Indians found the first Cape May diamonds in the Cape May area. They are believed to have been traded among tribes and also believed to contain supernatural powers necessary for bringing on fortune and success. The diamonds, which wash up along the shores of the Delaware Bay in the Cape May area, are actually quartz stone. While not as common to find as one would like, there are significant amounts of them along those beaches.
This is a good time of year to look for them, since your competition is certainly less as the weather gets colder.
